Guided Reading

Once students have done their pre-reading, they are ready to begin reading. To read for information, students need to monitor their understanding in an ongoing manner. They may accomplish this by:

  • making notes about concepts/ideas
  • answering questions they have formulated during pre-reading as well as others that have arisen through the reading
  • selecting fix-up strategies: re-reading confusing passsages, examining the context of unfamiliar words
