After they had begun gathering articles for their research project, Mr. Burke's, Mr. Ling's, and Mrs. McGuire's students spent a class period learning how to organize their notes. Regardless of the topic each student was researching, they were all looking at a problem, its causes, and possible solutions. In class, students read a brief article about an environmental problem (similar to one they may have found during their research) and helped the teacher fill in a cause and effect and then a problem-solution organizer on the overhead projector. They then spent the remainder of the period organizing notes from one of their own articles into one of the organizers.
